Welcome to the Ostrom Outdoors Fitting RoomWe need these measurements to ensure proper fit of clothing, and of course our “custom-made” Ostrom backpacks.
Take the following measurements with a cloth measuring tape:
- Back Length: measure the distance along your spine from where your shoulders meet your neck down to the point level with the iliac crest (X marks the prominent bone on the side of the body just below the waist) * see skeleton diagram
- Waist: measure the distance around the body at the top of your iliac crest *see skeleton diagram
- Hips: measure the distance around the body 3” below the top of your iliac crest *see skeleton diagram
- Chest: measure the distance around the body level with the arm pits *see skeleton diagram
- In-seam: measure the length of your pant leg along your inner thigh (not shown)
Custom-made Service for Everyone – Ostrom backpacks fit every shape and sizeShoulder straps and hip belts are interchangeable on any frame size on all our internal frame packs, so seems like the pack is made just for you.
Measurements determine frame size, hip belt size, and shoulder strap size, and are required for:
- Load Control Day Packs: Aurora, Boreal, Eclipse
- Canoe Packs & Barrel Harnesses: Algonquin, Wabakimi, Voyageur 60, Voyageur 30
- Backpacks: Windsong, Alpamayo, Ouimet, and the “Ultras”
- Work Packs: Pack Board, Chainsaw Pack (hip belt only)
Why is a proper fit important? The frame size you buy is determined by your back length. A frame that is too short will not transfer the load to your hips (resulting in a tired back). A frame that is too long will fee unbalanced (poor load stability).
Hip belt sizing is determined by your waist and hip measurements and your chest measurement is linked to shoulder strap size (the length of the shoulder straps). |
